Toughened Glass

What is toughened glass?

Toughened glass combines exceptional strength with enhanced safety, making it the ideal choice for a wide range of architectural and interior applications. Through a specialised thermal treatment process, the glass is transformed into a highly durable material that offers superior performance compared to standard float glass. During production, the glass is heated to approximately 650 °C and rapidly cooled using controlled air streams. This process significantly increases the glass strength, resulting in glass that is up to 3 to 5 times stronger than conventional float glass.

In the unlikely event of breakage, toughened glass shatters into small, blunt-edged fragments rather than sharp shards, considerably reducing the risk of injury. This characteristic makes it a safe, reliable and compliant solution for both residential and commercial environments.

Please note that once the toughening process has been completed, the glass can no longer be cut, drilled or otherwise processed.

Applications

Thanks to its outstanding mechanical strength and safe breakage characteristics, toughened glass is perfectly suited for applications where safety, durability and aesthetics are essential. Common applications include: glass doors, shower enclosures, glass partitions and walls, and more!

Most of our decorative glass products are also available in a toughened version.
